A while back, I signed up for Blog Action Day hoping to come up with something smart on Oct 15 for the event. Well, today is Blog Action Day and I'm still out of ideas. Instead of continuing with my fruitless efforts, I'm right here blogging away, wasting precious resources. (More on this later.)
Blog Action Day?
If you don't already know, the point of Blog Action Day is to get hundreds if not thousands of bloggers to act as one single voice. Hopefully that combined voice would be loud enough to be heard around the world, so that a change could be made. This year's theme is all about the environment.Win some, Lose some?
As I was desperately searching for tips or clever ideas to save the environment or anything about the environment (this is just exaggeration :) ), something struck me. Blog Action Day wants bloggers to talk about the environment, but as each of them do so, they are wasting electricity in the process. And as each new blogger joins in the movement, a bit more juice is used up. Heck, I'm contributing to the wastage! But that's only part of the problem. Everybody is posting about the same thing over and over again (although in different wording and expression), so everywhere you go all you see is Blog Action Day, though it may not be so obvious in the post title. But when you click into the post, you find out that no one (including me) has anything intelligent to say and you've just wasted 5 minutes of your life and some coal. You shrug to yourself and carry on with your surfing, all the while reducing available fuel reserves.
Sure, now everyone knows no one (maybe only me) has anything smart to talk about the environment, but what about the environment? Who's going be responsible for all the extra greenhouse gases released into the air caused by Blog Action Day (and the mess on Google)? You? Me? Bloggers?
Solution!
Don't waste your time reading/blogging about Blog Action Day! In fact, don't switch on your computer at all! It'll do the environment some good, plus it'll save you some money.Am I going to switch mine off right now? Well, no. A computer actually doesn't use much electricity and Blog Action Day is a great idea. It's just too bad you've read this far thinking otherwise. :)
Thank you for reading this post. Would you like 5 minutes of your life back?
