Forbidden Kingdom Teaser Trailer! (Jackie Chan VS Jet Li!)

Comments

The Forbidden Kingdom is where Jackie Chan and Jet Li Expect some awesome ass-kicking! I'm not a big fan of the kid though. He looks a bit too goofy (and out of place) in this action film.

A discovery made by a kung fu obsessed American teen sends him on an adventure to China, where he joins up with a band of martial arts warriors in order to free the imprisoned Monkey King.

Howto: Be a real Jackass and Download Jackass 2.5 from BlockBuster (includes non-US workaround!)

By now, you should have heard that you could (legally) watch Jackass 2.5 in the comfort of your home. Just head over to the (before 2008!), show some ID and success! Paramount Pictures, buffering, Johnny Knoxville, pause, rinse and repeat. Or not.

Tired of the occasional stuttering and frequent pauses, the jackass side of me kicked into motion and came up with an ingenious scheme to download Jackass 2.5 so that I could actually watch it and not wait for it. After I tasted sweet success in this endeavor however, the better part of me came into play once again, which is why you're reading this guide right now.

Tools of the trade

First things first. Let's get ourselves prepared. You'll need to download and install the following tools/programs.
Note: Remember to uncheck the installation of the toolbar for Flashget.

Get me that Jackass!

Once you're sure you've got everything installed, it's time to get into action.

  1. If you're outside the US, start HotSpot Shield. Next, right-click on its icon in your system tray and click on Connect. A browser window should popup and show Hotspot Shield connecting to its servers. When its icon looks like this Good to go!, you're good to go.

    Connecting...

Note: HotSpot Shield has a server that seems to be mis-configured in some way. Specifically DNS lookups will fail so your browser will complain about being unable to find sites. If you can't visit any site after Hotspot Shield's icon turns green, simply disconnect and reconnect. Pray that you don't connect to the same server (1/7 probability, a bit lower than ) as these connections are made randomly. If you know how OpenVPN works, you can also edit the config to avoid this.

  2. Next, run Firefox and clear out your cookies. This is to remove the evil jackass_geo_check cookie that you get when you first visited the Jackass site.

    Clear them out!

  3. Surf down to the in Firefox.

  4. Surrender your email address to them or use to get a disposable one. After confirming the email address, login (by entering your email address) to begin viewing Jackass 2.5.

  5. Before it starts however, a short advertisement featuring a spinning globe will get in your way. Ignore it or you could watch it if you really want to. While this advert is playing, click on the arrow beside Download Helper icon (three colored spinning balls) and observe the dropdown menu carefully. You may need to wait a while, but an option called "jackass25_1000k_v1_feature_production.wmv" should appear.

    Download Helper

  6. When that option appears in the dropdown menu, click on it and save it as a text file.

    Save as a text file

  7. Open up the text file you'd just saved and copy the mms link (Ctrl+c) inside of it. It should look similar to the one below.

    Open text file

  8. Now close Hotspot Shield, run Flashget and add a new Flashget download by pressing F4 when the Flashget window appears. Flashget is pretty smart as it'll automatically detect the mms link you just copied (to your clipboard) and paste it into the URL box, so you'll just need to configure the rest of the options as seen below.

    New Flashget download

  9. Begin your download by clicking ok.

    Jackass 2.5 download

  10. Profit!

And here's the Duke Nukem Forever Trailer!

Comments

As , 3D Realms has given us a quick glimpse at what Duke Nukem Forever may look like, that is, if it ever appears on the market. It isn't much, but from the looks of it, Duke's been keeping fit all these years. Still, I'd prefer some shots of Duke kicking ass to a couple of aliens screaming at me.

I'm looking for some alien toilet to park my bricks. Who's first?

The Latest Wall-E Trailer!

Comments

Here's the second Wall-E trailer that isn't even on yet. Like the , there's no dialogue, only wonderful lively background music. The plot goes a bit like this -

On an abandoned Earth where trash has taken over, a robot named WALL-E (Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class) accidentally finds the means for humans to return to their planet. Another machine, EVE, leaves to tell humanity the good news, and WALL-E follows her into space. (rottentomatoes.com)

Hilarious Hancock Teaser Trailer

Comments

Will Smith's upcoming film, , is about him starring as a super-laid-back superhero. How much of a bum is he, you ask. Well, just click play to find out. Don't miss the wicked ending!

After laughing my way through it, I'm sensing that Hancock = the movie version of What if Superman was one of us (song: by Joan Osborne).

The Dark Knight IMAX Prologue (6 and a half min preview) + Official HD Trailer

Comments

I'm a bit late on this one but here's the crappy 6:30 minutes in-film cam footage of the Dark Knight aka the IMAX Prologue (I'm sure you can guess why). This short clip is all about the Joker and his crew, so fans of the Dark Knight himself may be quite disappointed. Not a problem for me though, although I'd prefer the rest of it as well. :D

As for the official high-res trailer (Death trap), you can also watch and download it at .

Watch Full-Length Movies on Hulu as Well!

Ever since I received my Hulu invite 2 weeks back, I haven't really taken much time to browse through the site (mainly because I was under the impression that Hulu = TV shows and after a quick glance I concluded that they haven't got any new shows to offer me). However, this weekend I took some time to look around Hulu and was pleasantly surprised by what I found.

OMG111!!! Movies too‽

Contrary to popular belief (by popular I really mean my own), Hulu does not focus solely on TV. It appears that a very small section of the site is home to full-length streaming movies as well.

And like everything else on Hulu, you can take it and embed it anywhere you want.

If you're in the Hulu beta, check out and for the 10 movies shown above.

Is There A Need for OPENhulu?

Comments

Over at last100, (this is a well-known dude on digg, etc) mentions that with rising in popularity, people were falling over themselves to get an invite. Supposedly, Hulu is a "highly exclusive closed" private beta that is open to only select individuals.

Inside the Hulu beta

Highly Exclusive? O Rly?

Like several others, I found this mildly amusing and surprising, since I received an invite 2 weeks back. While it's true that Hulu hasn't opened its doors to everyone, it wasn't terribly difficult to gain access. Here's what I did - enter my email address at Hulu and wait patiently for my invite. Was that really so hard?

OPENhulu - Hulu for everyone?

But we live in an era where we're pampered with instant gratification. Hence the post introduces someone named Matt, who came up with the bright idea of embedding Hulu videos on a site he created - you've guessed it - . By embedding the Hulu videos into the site, OPENhulu bypasses one aspect of Hulu's artificial limitations - the invite only requirement.

Inside OPENhulu

Nope...

However, that is about the only limitation that OPENhulu circumvents. If you're located outside the US, videos will still refuse to stream for you, leaving you with a nice message that reads "this video is not currently available in your country or region". I'm sure you should know by now that US ≠ world and OPENhulu is sadly only open to US folks.

What about US visitors that haven't gotten the memo? Well, the problem with OPENhulu is that only select TV series have been embedded. And by that, I mean a very small handful. 5 - 10% perhaps. So you can't actually watch everything Hulu has to offer on OPENhulu.

The alternative techniques

When Hulu first launched, I blogged about methods for bypassing Hulu's closed wall. One of them uses and allows you to watch the videos in full screen. However, these videos have no titles, which is a major inconvenience.

The other workaround is to view them on or . I believe that the full hulu collection is available on these partner sites. Unfortunately, you'll still need to be located in the US to view them.

So why do we need OPENhulu?

Is OPENhulu a solution looking for a problem? It sure looks that way especially with Hulu's partner sites providing the full catalog of Hulu videos. Maybe someone can enlighten me.

Free: University Courses Online, CNET UK Internet TV, Uninstallers

Comments

Offtopic: Working on a new Blogger hack soon. ;)

Free university courses online

Fancy taking a course at , or but don't want to fork out any cash? Now you can browse through any of their open courseware offerings available online for free! With a wide range of courses available and , it's your chance to get a tertiary education without actually attending classes. Although universities won't officially recognize your Physics knowledge gained through their online courses, keep in mind that (with a Physics degree).

[via ]

(If you remember seeing something like this, .)

CNET UK Internet TV

CNET TV The just launched and is getting pretty good feedback so far. Other than its slick and smooth interface, videos are of better quality and resolution than most Flash videos you see. Besides quality, there's also quantity. Despite its recent launch, it has already been populated with a decent selection of videos to watch, ranging from technology to music. And if you happen to have a widescreen monitor, you're in luck as all the videos are in widescreen format (I think :) ).

Just a tip: I've updated to include CNET's new site. :)

Uninstallers

Installing programs to uninstall programs. Kinda ironic, don't ya think? I, for one, have always relied on Windows Add/Remove to do the dirty work, but if that isn't powerful enough for you, . Read each of them carefully since some of them do not require installation or provide a standalone version. Personally, I'd go for the ones that need no installation since I'd like to avoid the situation of installing programs to uninstall the uninstaller. :)

So Far So Good For 8 Limbed Girl

Comments

Lakshmi Tatma, the 8 limbed girl, currently in surgery

Remember from yesterday? Doesn't ring a bell? Here's a quick video recap of the girl with eight limbs and the surgery to remove her parasitic twin.

Responding well, so far so good

The surgery mentioned in the video is currently ongoing and so far it looks like everything is going well. A hospital spokesman was quoted saying that "it has been so far so good" and that "she's responding well with an 80% chance of survival".

The first hurdle may have been crossed uneventfully, but the major challenges are just up ahead. Surgeons will carry out the first stage of her 40 hour marathon surgery tonight (in Indian time) and continue on with the second stage tomorrow. The most difficult task appears to be reattaching all the tiny blood vessels and veins, since these are currently shared with her parasitic twin.

Edit: Looks like I can't use the Newsroom articles. Oh well, here's the same article, .

Limbs removed, she's ok

Update: that the operation took 27 hours and she's now recovering in the intensive care unit. Her condition is stable and sound, and the surgery proceeded without any complications.

An AppSnapp Jailbreaking Video

Comments

With the yesterday, it isn't surprising there aren't any new developments today. Still, this YouTube video of the new in action may be of interest to those who aren't too confident of themselves. :)

Made by Mark @ , it drags on for almost 6 minutes, but that's because he was demonstrating every step in slow motion. Doing it normally should halve the time to jailbreak your iPhone. A step-by-step walkthrough for AppSnapp 1.1 isn't out yet, but if you can't do it simply by watching the video, maybe jailbreaking your iPhone on your own may not be such a good idea. :P

Free: Lamont - Golden Daze, Posteet

Comments

Offtopic: Not much posts from me on weekends. It's normal, unless I happen to be bored. :)

Lamont - Golden Daze

Lamont - Golden Daze
Ok, don't get too worried about seeing logo up there. Lamont's debut album, The Golden Daze, is being (MP3/FLAC/OGG) by Lamont themselves. (If you have no faith in me, just visit . :) )

If you're wondering why you haven't heard of Lamont before, it could be because 1) they're a Swedish band (performing in English) or 2) this is their debut or 3) you don't keep your ears open :P. Here's their Golden Daze music video, just in case you can't decide if you should dedicate some bandwidth to them. (It's worth noting .)

My experience with the download can be summed up in one word - speedy. Within seconds of starting the torrent, I had already crossed the 100 kilobytes barrier. Can't say much about the album since I'm still not done yet (a few minutes more), but the 10 files look like they're 320kbps MP3s (from their size).

If you feel guilty about being a freeloader, there's an option to .

Posteet

Programmers/web developers/code junkies normally collect a bunch of coding tricks/tips over the years. But keeping them organized is quite a challenge (not to mention troublesome). This is where steps in and hands you control over your code.

Other than storing your code, Posteet allows you to tag and share it with others, if you wish. And if you're worried about code that looks like a half-done novel, snippets on Posteet come with syntax-highlighting whenever supported. With such a wide variety of code up on Posteet, I wonder if I can find LOLCODE there. :)

Yeah, what can I say? Freebies are scarce on Sundays. :P

Don't miss: Cute Turtles Washed Ashore, Fire Pigs, Backstreet Cockatoo and Japan's Best Backside Babe

Comments

TV Links was shut down recently and a 26-year-old man from Cheltenham has been arrested in connection with offences relating to the facilitation of copyright infringement on the internet, Federation Against Copyright Theft (Fact) said. However, .

If you happen to be one of those who miss TV Links, here are some interesting videos to tide you over. In the first video, see cute tiny endangered turtles that have been washed ashore. Rescuers hope to examine each and every one of them and return them to the sea. Not a fun task I'm sure.

Next in the list, bigger cousins of , are playing with fire. Watch four of them hop into rings of fire in order to enjoy a tasty treat.

Third, Snowball, the Backstreet Cockatoo. He really enjoys dancing to the Backstreet Boys' Backstreet's Back.

Lastly, 18-year-old Kaho Watanabe, Japan's best backside babe. Does she have the best bottom in the whole of Japan? Well, the judges seem to think so. Somehow, I doubt everyone agrees.

The Golden Compass Theatrical Trailer

Comments

In a parallel universe, young Lyra Belacqua journeys to the far North to save her best friend and other kidnapped children from terrible experiments by a mysterious organization. -

The first movie based on the bestselling Philip Pullman novels. The "His Dark Materials" trilogy is comprised of "The Golden Compass," "The Subtle Knife" and "The Amber Spyglass". It revolves around a young girl who travels to the far north to save her best friend. Along the way she encounters shape-shifting creatures, witches, and a variety of otherworldly characters in parallel universes.

Watch it. Be awestruck. It does remind me of , rather than , except with bears instead of a lion. More breath-taking .
